City of Scottsdale – Emergencies: Dial 911
Non-Emergencies: Police 480-312-5000, Fire 480-312-8911, General 480-312-3111
Your NW Team thank all who were able to attend our recent NW Crime Prevention and Safety event held on March 11, 2023. The overwhelming feedback we received about all the valuable speakers’ information was very positive and valuable info, including many useful tools. See the ‘Tips’ section for details.
Why is Neighborhood Watch Important? – The most important part of neighborhood watch is getting to know your neighbors, building a relationship, and communication. Not spying or being noisy – just observation – knowing your neighbors and having a relationship is critical – Leave it to PD.
If you SEE something SAY something. Follow your gut, you know what should and shouldn’t be there. Remember NW isn’t about being nosy or spying it’s about observing.

Purpose & Function
Neighborhood Watch (NW) is represented by citizens and police working in partnership to reduce crimes and improve the quality of life in neighborhoods.
By having a cohesive body of concerned citizens addressing issues that concern the entire community, NW programs can instill a greater sense of security, well-being and reduce the fear of crime in your community, as well as create a greater “sense of community” by putting the “neighbor” back into neighborhood.
With neighbors getting to know each other, taking the time to care about each other and working together in a program of mutual assistance, the residents that live in an area will know the needs of that area better than anyone else. By communicating with each other and working together as a team, your community can make a difference.

FAQs
Should you call for an Emergency or non-Emergency?
If there is someone looking suspicious but not in the act of a crime, please call police non-emergency at 480-312-5000. (pressing #6 will take you to a live agent immediately.)
Any type of crime in process or emergency should warrant a call to 911 immediately. Any suspicious behavior or issues should be directed to the police department however. Once reported, please report it to your NW captain so they can share it with the neighborhood.
Tips
TIPS for Deterring Criminals and Preventing Crimes in our neighborhood
1. Always lock your car. Do not keep purses or valuable in your car. Keys should stay inside away from the front door.
2. Invest in a camera device or something that detects motion near your residence.
3. Place lights in specific areas so that criminals don’t have places to hide.
4. Keep keys near your bed and set off car alarm if anything strange is occurring or if there is an emergency.
5. Always lock doors no matter what. Invest in metal screen doors and anything else that makes it harder on criminals.
Catalytic converter thefts are increasing. In the past, the City of Scottsdale has held an event to educate us re: these thefts. We hope that these will continue.
